Obama, Boehner hold 'frank' meeting on fiscal cliff

By Associated Press

LAST UPDATED: 04:28 p.m. HST, Dec 13, 2012

WASHINGTON >> President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner held a “frank” meeting lasting nearly an hour tonight, aides to both men said. Boehner returned to the Capitol without public comment, and the aides would not discuss whether the negotiating session at the White House resulted in progress to avoid the looming “fiscal cliff.”

It was the two men’s second face-to-face encounter in five days as they seek to find an agreement that avoids economy-stressing tax increases and spending cuts scheduled to kick in on Jan. 1.

The use of the word “frank” to describe the talks suggested that both stuck hard to their positions. Key issues center on Obama’s demand that upper tax rates rise on household incomes of more than $250,000 and Boehner’s call for more spending cuts from the White House.

Obama should broker a coalition of House Democrats along with pragmatic House Republicans who want to be re-elected in two years. It might be the best way to save America from the influence of the Tea Party lunatics. Boehner's "leadership" is dividing, crippling, and therefore leading to the destruction of, this nation. He and what he represents need to go away to become a footnote in history.

Obama won't budge an inch as he has been successful in fooling the US populace with his "Forward" and "Tax the wealthy as an investment in the middle-class" propaganda.

I don't get it, it's saving face, up the rich to $500K per household, raise the SS to age 67 and sign the damn thing!! I don't see why Obama is even in the negotiations--what experience has he got? Just like our new senator.

go ahead Boehner, and in 2 years the Dems will have super-majorities in both houses, 3 supreme court judges will graciously be allowed to resign, and the Dems will own Washington for the next 100 years...
