Brush fire scorches 10 acres near Makakilo

Firefighters responded to a 10-acre brush fire that occurred in Leeward Oahu last night. 

The fire occurred at about 10:45 p.m. Thursday located mauka of the H-1 freeway near the North-South Road on-ramp, according to Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig. 

The fire did not threaten any homes. Firefighters temporarily shut down two westbound lanes on the freeway to access the blaze. The fire was under control at 2 a.m. and extinguished by 3 a.m. 

Firefighters returned to the site today to check for any smoldering spots. 

The cause of the fire was undetermined, Seelig said.
