Hawaii County police have released a 33-year-old Keaau man arrested in the traffic death of another man Sunday in Puna.
Police said the driver was reversing a 2000 Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle in a private driveway when Beke Robert Jr., 29, either fell or jumped out. He was run over.
The incident took place at the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision.
Police arrested the driver on suspicion of first-degree negligent homicide, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant, having no no-fault insurance and no driver’s license and inattention to driving.
After conferring with prosecutors, police released the man Tuesday pending further investigation.
