Congress announces memorial services for Inouye

Congressional leaders announced the official schedule of memorial services for U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye today.

The body of Inouye, who died Monday at a Washington hospital, will lie in state Thursday in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, according to an announcement from House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.)

Inouye will arrive at the U.S. Capitol at 4:50 a.m. Hawaii Standard Time.  Following the arrival, a service will be held in the rotunda beginning at 5:00 a.m. with remarks congressional leadership preceding the laying of wreaths and from Vice President Joe Biden. A public viewing from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. will follow.

On Friday, a public memorial service will be held at the Washington National Cathedral, starting at 5:30 a.m. HST. President Barack Obama, who was born in Hawaii, is tentatively scheduled to attend Friday’s memorial service, according to a source.

Inouye is expected arrive in Hawaii on Saturday. He will lie in state at the state Capitol from 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday, according to Gov. Neil Abercrombie's office.

On Sunday, a final public service will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at 10:00 a.m.
