Kauai police Thursday closed Kuhio Highway on the North Shore just north of Limahuli Gardens while the manhunt continues for the 37-year-old man suspected of throwing a Japanese tourist off a cliff near Kalalau Beach.

The 31-year-old Japanese visitor, who was thrown off a 15-foot cliff in Kalalau on Sunday, remains in critical condition at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Police said the hiker was camping in Kalalau.

Police have posted a $1,000 reward for anyone who provides information resulting in the arrest of suspect Justin Wynn Klein.

The closure blocks roadway access to Kee Beach and the adjacent parking lots.

Access to the Kalalau Trail via the Kee Beach trailhead, the Na Pali Coast State Park and Haena State Park remain closed to the public until further notice.

The closures allow law enforcement to continue their search.

Klein is described as a Caucasian male, 6 feet 1 inch tall, with brown hair in a Mohawk style, possibly a moustache and a beard, and a band style tattoo around his left arm.

Klein is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Anyone with information on Klein’s whereabouts is asked to call the Kauai Police Department at 241-1711. Tipsters can remain anonymous by calling Kauai CrimeStoppers at (808) 241-1887.

Klein is a real tough guy...throwing a Japanese tourist who probably stands 5' and 100 lbs! Wait until the natives at Halawa get a hold of this guy.

He must have come to Kauai on the last Ferry Ride, and has no way back to Waianae.

Aquarius and 8082062424 - Allie enjoys that taste of her feet. That's why she permanently has both of them stuffed into her mouth. Allie doesn't understand that "it's better for her to keep her mouth closed and have folks think she's st*pid than for her to open her mouth and let everyone know she's st*pid".

Japanese tourists should not travel alone as he clearly has a specific target. Why are Japanese tourists so often the targets for criminals here?

Not at all, check out crime statistics and see majority of crimes against tourists are committed to Japanese. Why?

We need to ban cliffs over 15 feet high. Right?

Anonymous - THAT IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!! With the staggering increase in the number of the useless, with that bonehead and allie being prime examples, an obvious possibility is to train them to make safety checks of these cliffs by taking test jumps and paying them minimum wage. That way they can provide a vital service and attain some degree of self worth by earning their own living instead of leeching off society.

This wingnut needs to be caught and put away. I would position officers at campsites at Kalalau Beach, Hanakoa, and Hanakapiai Beach. He has to come out of the valley he is hiding in time. Volunteers could be asked to comb the valleys, I'm sure many of us would be willing to be helicoptered in to search out the cockroach. I pray for the full recovery of the victim.
