Brush fire chars pasturage on Hawaii island

About 15 acres of brush were destroyed by fire Wednesday night in a pasture near Naalehu, the Hawaii County Fire Department reported.

The fire was reported at 9:26 p.m. and brought under control at 10:25 p.m.

The affected area was located in a pasture on the makai side of Highway 11 near the 63-mile marker.

I hope today's rain is getting far enough south to help the parched areas around Na'alehu. We should seriously look at installing a pipeline from Volcano to Ka'u to carry some of our excess rainwater to where it is needed.
