SAN FRANCISCO >> San Francisco is trying to solve a problem in its popular Union Square: pushy panhandlers.

There have long been complaints by tourists and shoppers about aggressive beggars. One hotel says it removes about six a day from the hotel.

The San Francisco Chronicle says the Union Square Business Improvement District has been interviewing hundreds of people who give to panhandlers and now plans to interview the panhandlers themselves to provide real data. The idea is to come up with a solution to the problem by January.

Meanwhile, police have been cracking down. Since September, people have been arresting people who have 10 or more citations for crimes such as aggressive panhandling or public urination.

The LAST thing we need are yet more Californians. Or haven't any of you noticed that in the last, oh, 40 years? Our islands are rapidly being populated by hordes of them, pricing our children out of the housing market while they buy up the best places with pockets flush with cash from the sale of their homes in California.

Hey, you don't have to go to SF!! Just look at Moiliili Field and you can see how the homeless have ruined our neighborhood field. When you walk by the "tent city", it reeks of urine ... really stink! The police come and move them out but with 2 hours, they are back again. It is like watching a bunch of kids. The police evict them and within 2 hours they are back again because they know the police won't be back that day.
