County governments on Hawaii island, Kauai and Maui are holding memorial services this week for U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye, who died Dec. 17 at age 88 of respiratory complications.
About 1,000 people, including President Barack Obama, attended a service for Inouye at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl on Sunday. On Saturday evening several thousand people paid their respects as Inouye lay in state at the state Capitol courtyard.
Here are details on the neighbor island observances:
>> Thursday: Hawaii County will hold a memorial service from noon to 2:30 p.m. at Afook-Chinen Hilo Civic Auditorium.
>> Friday: Kauai County will hold a memorial service at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall. Visitation is at 4 p.m., followed by a service at 5 p.m.
>> Saturday: Maui County will hold a service at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater. Visitation is at 9 a.m., followed by a service at 10 a.m.
