Donor promises to give $9M to University of Hawaii

By Associated Press

An anonymous donor is promising to give $9.2 million to the University of Hawaii in support of astronomy, oceanography, culinary arts and other programs.

University of Hawaii Foundation spokeswoman Margot Schrire said today the donor has already given some of the money to the school. But most of the funds will be given to the university upon the donor’s death. The donor will remain anonymous until he or she passes.

The money will fund scholars at the Institute for Astronomy and the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology or SOEST.

It will also help pay for the design and construction of a new Culinary Institute of the Pacific facility.

The donation will support student scholarships and work in geriatric medicine and rare Hawaiian plants.

I wonder if this gift would be possible if we highly taxed the 1 Percenters?

With a gift of that size, you think that donor is even worried about taxes?

Sad to say clueless UH Management has already started planning ways to waste this money, just as they did with the Wonder Blunder and all their other failings. Donor should have required outside oversight of his donation to ensure UH does not waste more money.

Don't count your eggs before they're hatched. 9 Million dollars in promises is still ZERO in the bank if they are simply promises. Its amazing how the University still jumps the gun esp after the Stevie Wonder fiasco. Lessons not learned

The money will come soon. Once UH's check clears the Nigerian Bank, it'll be here as fast as the wire can carry it!
