A Kalahelo motorcyclist died Wednesday night following a traffic collision near the Kaumualii Highway and Puolo Road junction in Hanapepe.

Police said Brian Cesario, 25,  was traveling east on the highway when he collided with a west-bound Ford F-150 truck making a left turn to Puolo Road at about 6:30 p.m.

Cesario died of his injuries at the Kauai Veteran's Memorial Hospital, police said.

He was not wearing a helmet.

The 71-year-old man driving the Ford pickup suffered minor injuries.

Kaumualii Highway was closed in both directions near mile marker 17  for about four hours while police investigate the crash. Traffic was diverted to Hanapepe Road until the highway could be reopened shortly before 11 p.m.

The death is the eighth traffic fatality on Kauai this year.
