A 35-year-old homeless woman was killed early this morning while walking on the road in Waimanalo near the Jack in the Box fast food restaurant.
Police said the woman was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center after being hit by a man traveling east on Kalanianaole Highway near Poalima Street at 1:05 a.m. She had been walking on road and was not in a marked crosswalk. The victim died at the hospital.
Speed or alcohol do not appear to be factors in crash, police said.
This was Oahu’s third traffic death, compared to one at the same time a year ago.
Also as a rule of thumb when i am driving in the dead of the night when there are hardly any cars around, i go 5 MPH below the speed limit, and i also go another 5 MPH lower if the roads are wet.
I remember an incident on the off ramp of the H-1 West at the Houghtailing Street off ramp at about 8:45pm in November 2011 that really had me wondering about some people. if u want to view it as it happened without any cuts in my video, i have it on You Tube as "Pedestrian Near Freeway Exit". On that video i was so concerned that i went around to see what happened to that guy. It turned out someone had already called HPD to counsel the guy as to keeping away from the roads and to stay home. I could have easily run over that guy, or another car could have easily run over him. Sometimes people with distraught feelings need to be talked to constantly.
