Obama won't support building 'Death Star'

WASHINGTON » A "Death Star" won't be a part of the U.S. military's arsenal any time soon.

More than 34,000 people have signed an online petition calling on the Obama administration to build the "Star Wars" inspired super-weapon to spur job growth and bolster national defense.

But in a posting Friday on the White House website, Paul Shawcross, an administration adviser on science and space, says a Death Star would cost too much to build — an estimated $850 quadrillion — at a time the White House is working to reduce the federal budget.

Besides, Shawcross says, the Obama administration "does not support blowing up planets."

The U.S., Shawcross points out, is already involved in several out-of-this-world projects, including the International Space Station, which is currently orbiting Earth with a half-dozen astronauts.

Who is proposing this ridiculous project? What the US should continue to fund, which is in the billions, is the continued development for the use of lasers mounted on an airplane or on space satellites that can shoot down intercontinental and short range missiles that could be fired by Iran, North Korea, China, Russia, etc to Hawaii or the US mainland. Don't stop there develop laser technology to kill land targets (including people). Not sure who said this but the stronger, more advanced the US is in its offensive and defensive weaponry, the SAFER US and Americans will be in the world.

It's the kind of joke that Nobel laureate and celebrated left-wing loon "economist" Paul Krugman likely would embrace. In August of 2011, on CNN with Fareed Zakaria, Krugman theorized:

“If we discovered that space aliens were planning to attack, and we needed a massive build-up to counter the space alien threat, and inflation and budget deficits took secondary place to that, this slump would be over in 18 months...”

At least the petitioners pushing this proposal recognize that it is our government becoming the "evil empire".

FACT is the White House officially responded to the petition. I am fully aware the 'death star' proposal at the present time is ridiculous, HOWEVER laser 'death rays' shot from space or from an airplane is REAL and close to reality and if perfected will be a game changer for the US, just like at the end of WW2 when the US was the only country with a workable atomic bomb.

Spending money on a project is out of the question. It would mean less for him to spend on himself and is cronies. Yo Holomua, you should have voted for Mitt.

No, no "Death Star". President Obama is building the "Debt Star", a $60trillion (and growing) unfunded liability bomb that will be far more destructive than anything Darth Vader came up with.

And yet, he was re-elected. Go figure... $16,000,000,000,000 on his 1st watch alone - to private international banks... Now you know who he REALLY works for. And please, do not blame Bush for that one. It was all Barry...

Not all Barry's, He only added a little over a TRILLION a year! Not the whole 16. But by the end of his 2nd term, he will have doubled the debt.

Shawcross is correct in stating that the US has enough funds already involved in several out-of-this-world projects, which primarily lines the pockets of a few select groups of military industrial contractors. They don't need anymore money, and we the tax payers don't need anymore investments in outer space. Money should be funneled back home here on earth for programs that benefit the people. A petition that turned out good.
