Hawaii senior center Vander Joaquim hit the biggest shots of the game while becoming the program's 15th 1,000-point career scorer in a 60-52 defeat of Pacific tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Joaquim scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. He had a huge top-arc 3-pointer with a minute left for a five-point advantage to help decide a close, physical game.

UH (10-7, 4-2 Big West) stayed undefeated at home in Big West play at 4-0 despite a season-high 23 turnovers.

After Joaquim's 3, the Rainbow Warriors stopped the Tigers' Lorenzo McCloud on the next possession and freshman point guard Ozren Pavlovic was flagrantly fouled at the other end. Pavlovic, who didn't start but played most of the way, had a career-high 13 points and made both flagrant free throws.

He hit two more at the line in the final minute to help UH ice it. Pacific (9-8, 3-2) shot 3-for-27 (11 percent) on 3-pointers and had a three-game winning streak snapped

UH now takes on UC Davis (6-10, 2-3), which won at Cal State Northridge 74-71 earlier today.

With 9:12 remaining, Joaquim hit a short bank shot to give his team a 44-43 lead, and himself 1,001 career points. He needed nine coming into the game.

Joaquim hit the go-ahead baseline basket with 6:37 left to make it 47-45 and UH held a narrow lead from there.

The Tigers did not score for the first four minutes of the second half, but UH could gain no separation. The teams traded the lead until Joaquim's big buckets.

UH took a 30-29 halftime lead with a 4-for-4, 11-point effort by senior Hauns Brereton. He finished with that many.
