Ashleigh Karaitiana scored 17 points and Kamilah Martin added 14 as the Hawaii women's basketball team defeated Cal Poly 61-43 tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

UH evened its overall record at 9-9 and leapfrogged the Mustangs (10-7, 4-2 Big West) for second place in BWC play at 5-2.

Cal Poly shot just 27.6 percent and was held to a season low in points. UH jumped out to a 21-4 lead to start the game and led by double digits the rest of the way.

Poly cut a 15-point halftime deficit to 11 with 16:29 left, but missed three straight free throws.

With 9:10 left, UH scored 10 straight to make it 57-34 and the game wasn't in doubt from there.

UH took a 39-34 advantage into halftime thanks to 55.2 percent shooting in the period to 32.3 percent for Cal Poly.
