LAFAYETTE, Ind. » Prosecutors have dropped charges against a Lafayette woman who police say deliberately posted a nude photo of her teenage daughter on the girl's Facebook page.

Tippecanoe County Prosecutor Pat Harrington tells the Journal & Courier that he dropped felony charges of child exploitation and possession of child pornography against the 50-year-old woman Friday.

Harrington said in a statement that digital evidence crucial to the case no longer exists. Investigators spent a year collecting evidence, including issuing subpoenas to Facebook and the teen's cellphone provider, before the woman was arrested in November.

Prosecutors claimed the girl took the photo of herself but that her mother had possession of the phone when the picture was uploaded to Facebook.

Prosecutors can refile the charges if new evidence is found.

One would have to be brain dead to file these charges. Pity.

Wow! talk about the dangers of depicting nude photos on the internet. Better scissors the nude baby photo to bits that my dear departed Mother took before my first birthday, with my penis clearly shown. An old, old Japanese traditional custom. First got to locate it in one of jillions of albums. Aw heck foget it.

This nudity thing has gotten out of hand. Our country seems to have the most hangups when it comes to nudity. It seems like Americans are the ones that get all hot and bothered over nudity. In other countries nudity is not a crime. There is nothing "dirty" about the human body. It's those religious folks ironically that have such a hangup about it. I've read a report where a parent was put behind bars for having a nude picture of her toddler. And then we have movies that are filled with nudity in sexual situations. In California in a certain area, a nude person can go about his own thing. As soon as he wears a shirt but no pants he gets arrested. Of course, if that woman was airing out nude photos of her daughter that would simply be wrong and downright creepy.

Which of the world's major religions or governments are without sexual scandal? I rest my case. Something about the first stone.

If having nude photos of your child is a crime, then a lot of law-abiding parents are criminals. Many parents have nude pictures of their babies and todlers. Next thing you know another parent is behind bars for such a thing. In this case, it is the child that is the victim of an overzealous government. The child loses his or her parent for a long period of time. This has happened. So who is the criminal here?
