Pedestrians struck in separate accidents this morning

Two pedestrians were taken to the hospital after being struck by vehicles Monday morning in separate accidents.
A 29-year-old man was struck by a bus at Farrington Highway and Old Government Road around 6:10 a.m. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
In a separate accident, a 13-year-old girl was struck by a car at Mohalu and Waipio Uka streets around 6:40 a.m. and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The "article" doesn't say if either victim was in a marked crosswalk. Were the bus and car travelling on the sidewalk, or were the pedestrians walking on the street?? Too many pedestrians (especially in Waikiki) have a careless attitude about randomly stepping out onto the street "expecting" cars and busses to see and avoid them.

I agree that too many pedestrians think they have the right of way and just walk--I have learned a long time ago that cars are bigger than I am and I don't challenge them. But on the other hand, as a driver, sometimes it's had to tell if a pedestrian is just waiting at the corner or intends to walk. Simple--make eye contact and shanka.
