A 49-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition this morning after she was struck by a pickup truck that fled the scene in Waipahu.

Emergency Medical Services said the crash occurred about 6 a.m. at Paiwa and Puloku streets, and police reported the woman suffered head and internal injuries.

Police said the woman was crossing Paiwa Street outside a marked crosswalk and was headed toward a stopped city bus when the crash occurred.

The truck was possibly red, police said.

Need to continue to educate pedestrians to use the cross walk. So many times I see people running across Paiwa Street early in the morning trying to catch the bus. People gotta think. If they get hurt, the whole family gotta suffer.
