Heavy rain prompts flood advisory for Maui

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Maui as moderate to heavy rain falls over the north-facing slopes of the island.

The National Weather Service has extnded a flood advisory for Maui as moderate to heavy rain falls over the Windward slopes of the island.

Windward areas are primarily affected, especially the slopes of Haleakala and the west Maui mountains, officials said. The flood advisory is scheduled through 12:30 p.m. today.

Weather officials warned residents to avoid streams, ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
