Obama asks Congress for short-term budget fix

Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is urging Congress to pass a smaller set of spending cuts and tax changes while they hash out a broader budget deal.

Lawmakers face a March 1 deadline when automatic, across-the-board spending cuts, already postponed once, take effect.

In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama says he still wants a comprehensive package that deals with the debt. But he says that takes time. He's asking lawmakers to move forward with a short-term deal as they continue working on a longer-term solution.

He says if the cuts aren't averted, the military, middle-class families and the economy could suffer.

In the Republican address, Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska says the U.S. must ramp up domestic energy production by streamlining regulations, investing in research and approving the Keystone XL pipeline.

This president is lost when it comes to keeping our fiscal house in order. The senate hasn't done a budget in four years. We're going on $17 trillion in debt, and all Obama wants to talk about is guns. It's like: "watch my hand over here. keep looking over here, while I fleece the economy over here." incredible that Americans tolerate any more of this buffoon..

Short term budget fixes just don't work. Congress and the President have been doing this for the last 4 years. They will never take a budget seriously if they just make short term fixes. The President needs to get his priorities straight. If he wants the budget and spending to be fixed, he needs to make that his number 1 priority. Instead, he is running around the country pushing gun control and Immigration amnesty.

What ever happened to "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!". Was Mr. Obama's "laser-like" focus on the economy just an election thing? Now, this reluctance to cut spending when he promised to cut our deficit in half. I'm thinking someone in the highest office in the land, no names here, has a short term memory problem. Either that or we're hip deep in hypocrisy.

He has no one to blame except himself.

I truly believe Obama is simply a double speak puppet used to tame the masses as he takes orders from the elite, which is comprised of The Federal Reserve Bank, the Goldman Sachs gang, and the military industrial complex. Thomas Jeffereson said that the power to issue our money supply should lie with the people. Not a private central bank, who profits the more we go into debt. The Fed just gave European Central Banks $500 billion to loan to other banks in Europe. They don't have to ask congress, they don't even know where the money went after that. They were called the "money changers" by James Madision, and he said they must never be in control of our money supply because throughout history they have gained power through deciet, violence, and manipulation. The Rothchild family even founded the Bank of England and bankrupted them too.
