Maui fire personnel rescued a hiker who fell off the trail and apparently broke his leg at Iao Valley State Park Thursday evening.

A Texas man, 19, was with a group of five other hikers who were hiking along the upper ridge trail when he fell and hurt his left leg and head, fire officials said.

Rescue crews hiked up the trail and escorted the group to safety. Paramedics treated the man for his injuries, but he refused transport to the hospital and was released at the scene.
