Sewage leak prompts health warning for Keehi Lagoon

By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 04:26 p.m. HST, Feb 15, 2013

The health department today posted signs this morning warned swimmers, fishermen and canoe paddlers to stay out of the Keehi Lagoon near the Nimitz Highway viaduct because of a wastewater discharge.

The health department’s clean water branch said the discharge — ongoing and intermittent — is coming from a cracked pipe located under the Nimitz viaduct.

Water samples are being taken and the pipe is being repaired. The public is advised to remain out of the water until the signs have been removed.
