Hawaii County police and the Transportation Security Administration are investigating how an inert grenade training device ended up in a Kamuela Foodland store this weekend.

The Kamuela store was closed for more than three hours after the grenade was discovered at 8:18 a.m. Saturday.

With the assistance of TSA officials, South Kohala police determined that the grenade was an inert training device that was shipped with the produce from Seattle, Washington, and did not pose an immediate threat. TSA officials assisted with the removal and disposal of the device and will be conducting an independent investigation.

The store was reopened at 11:40 a.m.
