The Hawaii Senate Ways and Means Committee is advancing a bill to decrease the liquor tax for beer or wine produced at local breweries.

The measure is among some 150 bills the committee is considering in a two-day sprint ending today.

Many of the proposals sailed through with the body's only Republican senator acting as a lone voice of dissent.

The committee advanced Thursday a bill allowing the state to partner with private companies to develop public school land.

Lawmakers deferred several measured to next week, including proposals to reform the University of Hawaii.

The committee's counterpart in the House is also hearing dozens of bills.

The House Committee on Finance is considering bills amending renewable energy tax credits, requiring labeling on genetically modified food and increasing the minimum wage.
