Hawaii matched its longest losing streak in 11 years under coach Mike Trapasso as John Simms and Blake Fox combined on a seven-hit shutout in No. 13 Rice's 5-0 victory Monday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

Hawaii finished 2-for-37 with runners in scoring position against the Owls (6-2).

Freshman Quintin Torres-Costa became UH's first pitcher under Trapasso to also bat and recorded the Rainbows' first hit of the game in the third.

UH played without a designated hitter.

Torres-Costa dropped to 0-2 on the season, allowing three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings with three walks and four strikeouts.

Simms (3-0) allowed five hits and no walks with three strikeouts to earn the win.

Michael Aquino finished 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Rice.

Hawaii hits the road for the UNLV Rebel Classic in Las Vegas. UH opens the five-game-tournament against LMU on Thursday at 2 p.m. Hawaii time.
