FTC: Hawaii has third-lowest rate of identity theft

Identity theft is once more the top complaint received by the Federal Trade Commission, with Florida garnering the dubious distinction as the state with the highest per capita rate of reported identity theft complaints.
In the 2012 annual report of complaints, the FTC reported Georgia and California trailed Florida, with Hawaii ranked at 48th for identity theft complaints.
Florida also was the state with highest per capita or reported fraud and other types of complaints, followed by Georgie and Maryland.
Hawaii was ranked 22nd.
Last year marks the first year in which the FTC received more than 2 million complaints overall, and 369,132, or 18 percent, were related to identity theft. Of those, more than 43 percent related to tax- or wage-related fraud.
