Three Maui hunters needed assistance from Makawao firefighters when they got disoriented by fog and darkness on the Waiakoa Loop Trail early this morning.

Rescue workers were dispatched to Polipoli late Wednesday night to help the hunters, ages 40, 27 and 21. They were located at 2 a.m. and helped to the trail head an hour later. No injuries reported and no one needed medical attention.

Department of Forestry and Wildlife personnel also assisted.

Dump hunters should have stop and not move when the fog came rolling in. That's one of first things you learn at hunter safety class. Should have left them there and save money.
