Police open attempted murder case in Keeaumoku stabbing

By Gregg K. Kakesako

LAST UPDATED: 12:33 p.m. HST, Mar 15, 2013

Police have opened an attempted murder and assault case following a fight early this morning on Keeaumoku Street.

Hospitalized following the stabbing was a 26-year-old man, who was listed in critical condition with stab wounds; and a 22-year-old man, whose condition was described as serious. Both men were taken by paramedics to the hospital at 4:22 a.m. The 22-year-old man has since been released from the hospital after being treated for cuts and abrasions.

Police said the two men were part of group of young men and women who got into fight with another group in the parking lot of the Keeaumoku McDonald's restaurant at 910 Keeaumoku St. The dispute began on the Sheridan Street side of the parking lot, police said,

The fight then spilled over to the sidewalk on the Ewa side of Keeaumoku Street where the two men were allegedly stabbed by the suspect. The suspect then fled the scene. Police have not released a description of the suspect.

Police are trying to determine what sparked the confrontation between the two groups of people who apparently didn’t know each other. Police also are investigating reports that the suspect may have been injured during an earlier fight.

This part of town has really gone downhill recently. The streets are absolutely filthy, the shop and restaurant owners (except McD's) do not care for the area in front of their establishment, some "roll-your-own-cigarette" has moved in with all sorts of bums urinating on the walls and sidewalks and tons of homeless people - the real hardcore kind.Even in the days of the girlie bars, Ke'eaumoku was in much better condition than now. I hate to see this vibrant area deteriorate so much but frankly it is getting creepy to be there at night. Of course I also remember when the City said that the "superblock" and Walmart would not add to traffic congestion so I guess any help from the City is probably too much to hope for.

Time for McD's on Keeamoku to invest in some serious camera system with high def cameras in their parking lot inside and in the patio area. Lets put faces on these people who act like animals. And still waiting for the public to view the McD's store video of the fight between Elderts and Deedy leading to Elderts death. Of course McD's, govt officials and Hawaii Tourism authority want to bury the video as to not affect the Hawaii visitors numbers, especially for the US mainland market.

Such a dangerous area. I remember years ago when I lived there, I saw a mugging on the street at about 2am in the morning. The noise woke me up. It was pretty horrible.
