UH men's basketball game won't be televised

Due to lower than expected ticket sales, the University of Hawaii said tonight's Collegeinsider.com Tournament men's basketball game with the Air Force Academy will not be televised locally.

UH had said sales would have to hit the estimated break even point of 6,500 before it would allow its TV partner, Oceanic Time Warner Cable, to air the game.

Tipoff is 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

UH did not say how many tickets had been sold as of this morning, saying only, "ticket sales are lower than expected."

More waste of taxpayer money, remember this game wasn't earned, it was purchased with taxpayer money.

J thought he could fill the arena with those zany students in their whacky costumes. He forgot those wild and crazy undergrads get in free - and like everyone else have moved on following the quick Little West tournament exit.

I have a hunch this was more of a reluctant CIT acceptance in order to ensure UH's most successful basketball coach (Wallace) doesn't get humiliated by being turned down for an invite to his old team.

As many of us commented when J rashly accepted the bid to the prestigious ZIT, there would be a ho hum money losing fan reaction to the scrimmage. The "tournament berth" only potentially benefits UH's underachieving coach - who despite a heavy diet of cream puffs did not meet his easily triggered sweetheart contract extension. Through Riley's handout, the chip off the old block now has another shot at gouging Hawaii taxpayers - not to mention the long-suffering loyalists who justifiably call for regime change after observing three years of head-scratching, mindless game strategy. Many posters revel in the supreme achievement of being invited to pay to play a home game in a website's tournament. I certainly find it riveting to follow the battle of the rejects. In my bracket, I still have 11-21 Chicago State winning it all.

Don't think to many people would attend a game on a weekday especially if they have to work the next day, also don't think people happy that UH had to pay in order to play in this tournament. See what happens.

Didn't Ben Jay say he wasn't going to "pay to play" in a third or fourth tier tournament?

Perhaps Mr. Jay is out of his element in Hawaii. Seems like 2 major mistakes already made in his short stay here - Name Change and Pay to Play. I don't believe this was for the players - more like giving the coach underserved bonuses.

No big deal, got better things to do then trying to figure out which team will show up. Hopefully next year we I'll see more consistent coaching and playing.
