Artist Mathewson selling painting on eBay to aid Japan

Honolulu artist Dennis Mathewson is raising money for Japanese disaster relief through the sale of one of his paintings. Titled "Tomodachi," the Japanese word for "friend," the painting depicts a tiki representing Hawaii  sharing a sprouting coconut with a tiki representing Japan.

The original is being auctioned on eBay. To access the auction and to see images of the painting, go to www.picturesplus.com/helpjapan. The painting will be displayed at various Pictures Plus stores and Diamond Head Gallery through April 11.

In addition, 40 limited-edition giclee prints are available for $200 each at Pictures Plus, and smaller matted fine-art prints are also for sale there.

All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Japan Disaster Relief Fund. Pictures Plus and fine-art printer Chromaco are participating in this fundraiser.
