A 17-year-old boy, who allegedly punched a man and stole his car following a traffic accident last month, was spotted and arrested in a Wahiawa home Monday.

Police said following an auto accident March 14, the juvenile suspect allegedly punched a 20-year-old man several times, took the victim's cell phone and vehicle and fled the scene. The victim was treated at a hospital and released.

Police caught the suspect Monday and arrested him on suspicion of robbery, burglary and several outstanding warrants.

You are probably right. Children take their cue from their parent behavior, attitudes and whatever. Simple to understand, the child carries their genes. Of course, if you take the child out of that environment and place him with another set of parents, it could change the child because of the new environment. It can only work if it is done at a very tender age of between 2/3. Our son was adopted when he was 2 and half years old. He emulates our ethics and behavior and he is 52 years old.

He made his choice in life. Parents can only do so much. He'll be an adult in a year and hopefully he'll straighten up!

Hope you don't strain your arm patting yourself on the back. Social dysfunction is partially a result of environment, but to label negative behavior as genetic and "curable" by changing parents is simplistic and naive. Narrowing the "cure window" down to ages 2 to 3, then bragging about your son adopted at 2 1/2 ignores the possibility that he would have been a good person no matter who his parents were. If he had ended up a criminal, would you have blamed his birth parents, or taken some of the responsibility yourself?

Knowing how cojef presents himself here, I believe he would've accepted MOST of the blame. But it's a moot point, 'cause cojef's son turned out a good man. Disagree with the narrow "cure window" tho, lol.
