Firefighters responded to a small brush fire Tuesday near Leihoku Elementary School in Waianae.

The brush fire that burned about a half-acre was fireworks-related, according to Capt. Terry Seelig, spokesman of the Honolulu Fire Department.

The fire occurred at about 12:27 p.m. and burned brush about 50 feet away from the school buildings. Seelig said there was no property damage.  Firefighters had the blaze under control by 12:40 p.m. and extinguished an hour later.

Witnesses reported seeing people playing fireworks in the area before the fire.
