A marine salvage company was scheduled to begin removing today a 53-foot sailing vessel that ran aground near Keehi Lagoon Park on Friday.

Parker Marine was hired to remove the vessel, Pairadice, off the reef near the park. The boat, which has a hole in its hull, is expected to be taken to a dirt area at Keehi Small Boat Harbor for preparation for disposal.

Work is scheduled to last at least through the end of the week and possibly through the weekend because of uncertainty over whether it can be removed in once piece.

It must be a real beauty if it's slated for disposal after removal from the reef, so why worry about trying to remove it in one piece if it's going to be chopped up anyway?
