Fireworks are blamed for a brush fire that burned five acres near the Duarte Apartments in Kailua-Kona Saturday.

The fire broke out at about 3:39 p.m. on the mauka side of Kuakini Highway in a field with dry trees and grass.

Firefighters brought the fire under control by 5 p.m. It burned to within 100 yards of the Duarte Apartments.

Ditto. Weak laws. Make them pay for the damage, response, clean up, extra police and fire folks that are needed to patrol areas, etc.
