The pedestrian struck and killed while crossing Farrington Highway in Nanakuli Friday has been identified as 60-year-old Kirk Bowman of Waianae.

Bowman is the first traffic-related fatality of 2013.

Police said several cars swerved to avoid Bowman as he crossed the highway toward the Kahe power plant. He was struck by a Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by a woman in her 40s.

The crash, which occurred shortly after 5 a.m., closed the highway in both directions for several hours.
