Dustin Johnson shot a final-round 5-under 68 today to hold off defending champion Steve Stricker (69) to win the weather-shortened Hyundai Tournament of Champions with a 54-hole total of 16-under 203.
Stricker, playing on a bad left leg due to a back injury, matched Johnson stroke for stroke until the 18th, but couldn't overcome the three-shot deficit he faced at the beginning of the day. Brandt Snedeker (69), who moved to within one shot of the lead on the front nine, finished alone in third at 10-under 209. Three consecutive bogeys before making the turn eliminated him from the chase.
Johnson has won the last three 54-hole tournaments dating back to 2009. It is his seventh PGA Tour title as he prepares to play in the Sony Open in Hawaii on Thursday. Stricker, who has said he will cut back to 10 to 12 tournaments, will not be at Waialae. Neither will Snedeker.
Bubba Watson (71) played with the stomach flu and tied for fourth with 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley (70) at 9-under 211. Bradley will also play in the Sony Open this week and is the second-highest ranked player in the first full-field event on the PGA Tour behind U.S. Open champ Webb Simpson.
