A forgery suspect was arrested after an alert bank teller recognized the man from previous encounters at the Pearl City Shopping Center institution on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the suspect, 21, allegedly attempted to cash a forged check about 3:20 p.m. at the Kamehameha highway bank. But the bank teller recognized the suspect and also knew the account that the check was drawn had already been closed because checks on the account had been stolen, police said.

The teller checked with the complainant, a 67-year-old woman, who confirmed that the account had been closed after checks had been stolen.

Police were alerted and the man was arrested on counts of second-degree forgery, second-degree theft and unauthorized possession of the check.
