Hawaiian Airlines earned No. 1 rankings for service reliability in November among the nation’s 15 largest carriers as it arrived on schedule 94.1 percent of the time and had no cancellations out of 5,985 flights.

The airline’s on-time performance was 8.4 percentage points better than the industry average of 85.7 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Air Travel Consumer Report. AirTran Airways, which is being merged into Southwest Airlines, was second best at 91.3 percent.

Hawaiian finished eighth for fewest mishandled baggage reports with 2.56 per 1,000 passengers, or a total of 1,899 reports for 742,497 passengers.

And the airline was 10th for fewest consumer complaints with 1.39 per 100,000 passengers, or 11 out of 791,033 passengers.

Hawaiian finished eighth and tenth? I wonder how far up or down on that list, Hawaiian was. It makes a difference. If one is eighth out of say 12 carriers, then that is in the bottom percentile, or shall we say a C Minus grade? Oh sorry, the first sentence says out of 15 carriers. So 8 out of 15 and 10 out of 15 says Hawaiian is average in those categories. Need improvement !! I say.

I'm so proud of Hawaiian! Decade after decade, it continues to offer superior service. I've tried other airlines and have had too many very offensive experiences with them. But with HAL? Never! Same old reliable, friendly, intelligent service. No, I'm neither an employee nor a stockholder--just a fan who keeps wondering how an outfit could keep on outperforming the others by such a wide gap. I cheered when a couple rude, stuck-up, you're-here-to-serve-us airlines went bankrupt. Way to go, everybody at HAL!

The weather at Honolulu Airport is the deciding factor. When is the airport shut down due to adverse weather? Maybe late November 2007? Mahalo.

Of course they are on time. They pad the transit time so that the arrival time can be easily achieved.
