Maui police found lab beakers, glassware, and other items that they suspect were used to make methamphetamine in a home in Kihei Thursday night.

Maui police discovered a suspected methamphetamine lab while serving a search warrant at a Kihei home Thursday.
Crime Reduction Unit officers seized six mopeds, believed to be stolen, ammunition and a black jack, along with drug paraphernalia, methadone hydrochloride pills, and lab beakers and equipment believed to have been used to make methamphetamine.
Police arrested a 52-year-old man who lived in the house on suspicion of methamphetamine trafficking, three counts of promoting a dangerous drug, two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia, possessing a prohibited deadly weapon, two counts of vehicle theft, four counts of possession of possible stolen vehicles, and several outstanding bench warrants.
Maui police also looking for the owner of the home at 144 Luakaha Circle, and her live-in boyfriend for vehicle theft.
Police found the suspected meth lab in the suspect’s bedroom, shortly after serving the search warrant at 1:20 p.m. Thursday. Officers discovered tubing, beakers, flasks, coffee filters stained orange and several jars containing a clear substance. The items tested positive for methamphetamine, police said.
Police called a hazardous materials lab team to secure and clean the area. A team from a Honolulu company that specializes in environmental hazard response was to arrive on Maui today to help in the clean-up.
Officers and hazardous materials crews were still at the home this morning.
