Beach reopens following Wednesday shark attack

Kiholo Bay park and beach, where a man was attacked by a shark Wednesday, reopened at 1:30 p.m. today after the Hawaii County Fire Department saw no shark sightings during a flyover.
Firefighters conducted the flyover at 1 p.m. from Kiholo Bay to Spencer Beach Park, according to Deborah Ward, spokeswoman of the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The park closed Wednesday after a 43-year-old surfer was attacked by a shark on the north end of Kiholo Bay at about 5 p.m. The victim was bitten on the right forearm by what was believed to be a 15-foot tiger shark.
The surfer was transported to North Hawaii Community Hospital for treatment. His condition is not known.
