The Pro Bowl's overnight television ratings were a fraction lower than last year but still the fourth best for the game since 2000.

An NBC spokesman said the overnight Nielsen ratings drew a 7.7 rating, down from 7.9 in 2012 when about 12.5 million viewers watched the annual NFL all-star game.

NBC said, "The Pro Bowl continues to be one of the most-watched events on the sports calendar, and we are pleased that it helped NBC win the night in primetime."

The NFC won the game, 62-35.

Why watch the Pro Bowl when some of the best players in the NFL cannot participate because they will be playing in the Super Bowl? The NFL needs to go back to the old system of having the Pro Bowl after the Super Bowl so that the truly best players can participate. That will boost attendance at the game and TV viewership.

It's not just the pre-Super Bowl problem. It's no blitzing, no rushing the kicker. That's not pro football. It's why I never go or watch on TV.
