A 33-year-old Ewa man jumped out a moving car Thursday night on the H-1 Freeway near the Waipahu offramp and was run over and killed by a passing car.

Police are looking for the driver of the car that hit the man, which did not stop, following the 9:45 p.m. accident. The incident occurred as the car, driven by a woman, was traveling west on the H-1 Freeway. The victim died at the scene.

This was the 9th traffic death, compared to four at the same time last year.

Against my better judgment at the time, I went ahead and spent the extra money for a car that had seat belts.......and doors. After reading this story - I'm glad I did. More people should.

Falling out a car? or falling out from a car? How can you fall out of a car? You can fall out from a truck bed but a car? Unless he was pushed out or he tried to get out of the car. Bad English

My friend said he saw something in the road, like a huge chunk of concrete or something. He watched as a camry hit it and flew about 3 feet in the air. He said about 10 other people had hit the thing and were pulled over to the side of the road. My guess is the guy who died also hit the thing, wasn't so lucky, and was ejected from his vehicle...

Once again, speculation without knowing the facts. What this newspaper isn't reporting, that other sources are, is that the guy jumped from the car.

it was reported earlier that the man was being driven to treatment by his wife when he freaked out and tried to get out of the car. wife tried to drive and restrain him but was unsuccessful and he went out onto the freeway where he was struck. earlier report said cops were going to charge the driver that hit the man with negligent homicide. didn't understand that as driving at nite on freeway in that area you can't tell what's on the road...cardboard box, person, wood, etc. also, don't know if driver that hit him was able to change lanes or what traffic was. what is provided in the article here is much different than was provided earlier.

Dang! Wonder what kind of treatment would freak you out enough to where jumping out of a car on a freeway is the better of the two options.

They could not have been driving so fast(the car that hit him) because there was road closures last night due to freeway repair.

This happened at least a mile after the construction zone, where all lanes were open again.

What''s wrong with people today? The driver of the car who hit the guy is not at fault and yet he ran. At this rate, our state legislature will pass still another common sense law that states you should not leave the site of an accident you caused. Man, our standards have really gone south.

This story is so bizarre. Maybe as this story unfolds we will fiind out why this person jumped out of the car on the freeway.
