Two people were injured, one critically, after they were ejected from their motorcycle while trying to avoid a collision with a car late this afternoon.

According to police, the male operator and his female passenger, both from Honolulu, were traveling south on Pali Highway on a Harley Davidson motorcycle when a station wagon crossed into their path from South Kukui Street.

Police said it appeared the motorcycle operator hit his brakes to avoid a collision, causing the motorcycle to drop and ejecting him and his passenger onto the roadway.

The station wagon apparently crossed a double-solid line as it moved into the path of the motorcycle, police said.

The passenger on the motorcycle, a 27-year-old woman, was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center. The driver of the motorcycle, a 21-year-old man, was also taken to Queen’s in serious condition.

The passenger on the motorcycle was wearing a helmet; the driver was not.

Neither the driver of the station wagon, an 81-year-old man, nor his 84-year-old female passenger was injured.

Police said alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash, but have yet to determine whether the motorcycle was speeding.

Police said that the accident happened at about 4:45 p.m. Police closed the makai-bound lanes of Pali Highway between South Kukui Street and Beretania Street until about 7:30 p.m. while they investigated the crash.
