Hawaii County firefighters rescued a man tangled in a tree after a paragliding crash above Honaunau in an old coffee field Saturday morning.

The paraglider pilot, a 45-year-old man, told firefighters he went into a downward spiral about 300 to 400 feet above the ground before crashing.

Firefighters assessed his injuries and took him to an ambulance for transport to Kona Community hospital after the crash at about 11:07 a.m.

The Fire Department news release did not detail the man’s injuries or say what condition he was in.
