A 27-year-old Kalihi man was arrested this morning in connection with the beating and robbery of a taxi driver at a Tantalus lookout point last week.

Police said the cabbie, 56, reported that he drove a man and woman from Waikiki to the scenic but remote lookout at about 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 30.

When all three were out of the vehicle, the taxi driver was assaulted and the couple took off on foot with the cabbie’s cell phone, police said.

The cabbie spotted the male suspect in Waikiki at 2:28 a.m. Thursday he was subsequently arrested by police on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
