A man in his 60s was hospitalized in serious condition following a hang-gliding incident in East Honolulu this afternoon.

The incident happened near Sandy Beach Park about 4 p.m. Paramedics and Ocean Safety personnel treated the man at the scene on the Ewa side of Sandy’s before transporting him to a local trauma center, the Department of Emergency Services said.

It was the second gliding mishap in East Honolulu in consecutive afternoons.

About 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Honolulu firefighters treated a paraglider who injured his hand during a hard landing on the Waimanalo side of Makapuu.
