Maui firefighters rescue 13 hikers trapped by rising waters

Maui fire rescue personnel assisted 13 hikers stranded on a Kailua trail by swollen stream waters on Sunday.

According to a Maui Fire Department news release, the hikers, ranging in age from 8 to 54 years old, became trapped on the Bamboo Forest trail when stream waters suddenly rose shortly after noon.

The stranded hikers were airlifted to safety. No injuries were reported.
