Leaning utility pole closes part of Sand Island Access Road

Police have closed lanes on Sand Island Access Road because of a leaning utility pole.
A Hawaiian Electric Co.spokeswoman said crews were on their way to inspect the pole near 24 Sand Island Access Road,
Police initially closed the road in both directions, but are now contra-flowing cars around the scene.

Use metal poles like traffic light poles and not going lean. No more wood rot or termite damage. Common sense. Not going fall down when car crashes into it either. Easy to replace, just unbolt at base, then put new one. Wooden pole gotta dig puka. Waste time.

HECO should take a lesson from Okinawa. There are no wooden utility poles due to the frequent Typhoons to hit the area. Metal or reinforced concrete are the standard. During a storm the poles hold up well, never blowing down. Lines also survive better as no breaking poles to drag them down. HECO whines about maintenance costs but does nothing to reduce costs, installing stronger poles. Better to just keep raising rates for rate payers then fixing the problem. Sad to say HECO loses poles anytime mild winds blow. Wait until a major storm hits the island, wiping out HECO's small supply of backup poles. Can't call in extra crews like on the mainland. HECO learned nothing after Kauai lost thousands of poles, blocking roads, damaging property. HECO = 4th world wannabe utility company with clueless management. This is what HECO does, nothing.
