Prosecutors charged a 29-year-old convicted felon Wednesday who eluded police and had been hiding out in a house he had broken into in Sunset Beach.

At 4:09 p.m. Tuesday, police arrested John Serrano, 29, who was wanted on several outstanding felony warrants in the Haleiwa area when they found him driving a vehicle on the highway. Serrano spotted the officers and sped away in the vehicle toward Sunset Beach. Police officers pursued the vehicle, but lost sight of him near Sunset Beach, police said.

Officers conducting searches in the area found him hiding in a Sunset Beach home on Ke Nui Drive.

He was arrested Tuesday and charged Wednesday with unauthorized entry into a dwelling, drug charges, resisting arrest, reckless driving and driving without a license. His bail was set at $20,000 for those charges.

Serrano has a criminal history including terroristic threatening, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, drug and abuse convictions.
