A 49-year-old Makawao man was charged Tuesday with second-degree attempted murder in an alleged attack on a woman at a Presidents Day party at a Lahaina apartment.
Calvin Borge is being held at the Maui Community Correctional Center with bail set at $100,000.
At 2:22 a.m. Tuesday, witnesses told police, Borge approached the 53-year-old victim from behind, placed her in a neck hold and used an envelope opener with a semi-serrated blade to “slit” the front portion of the victim’s neck, police said. Both were attending the holiday gathering at the apartment on Wainee Street.
The victim was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment and was later released in satisfactory condition.
