Donna Leong, chief legal officer for the Outrigger hotel chain, has been tapped by Mayor Kirk Caldwell to be the city’s top civil attorney.

Leong, who was a partner in the law firm Cades Schutte LLP before joining Outrigger Enterprises in May 2006, must now receive confirmation from the City Council before taking on the post as corporation counsel.

Born and raised in Honolulu, Leong received her law degree from the University of Washington and her undergraduate degree from Stanford University.

Caldwell had previously nominated David Arakawa, who once was corporation counsel for former Mayor Jeremy Harris. Arakawa pulled his name from consideration for personal reasons only weeks after his appointment was announced last month.

Caldwell has yet to name a budget and finance director.
